PRODUCT DISCOVERY / DARIA
Shopping that learns you.
A personal shopping assistant imagined by Daria for the people who know what they like, yet would rather be doing almost anything than opening another dozen shopping tabs.
It started with Daria
Daria does not enjoy shopping. While the zeitgeist suggests browsing should be a pastime, she remains delightfully unconvinced. She knows her own taste and can appreciate a good find; she just does not want a part-time job finding it. A dozen tabs, repeated filters and another round of “almost, but not quite” are not her idea of fun. She is her own person, which is precisely why a generic list of popular products misses the point.
When she told me about that dilemma, I heard a problem worth solving. Daria also has a keen interest in high tech and a growing curiosity about AI, Python and machine learning. I was spinning up this website at the time, so I jumped in: here was a chance to put my data science pipeline thinking to work on a question close to home — explore how shopping could feel simpler and more personal. Could we spare her the shopping safari and still help her find something that feels like her?
The idea and product vision are Daria’s; she is the concept originator and lead user, User Zero. I shaped the discovery, AI/data approach and prototype with her. Then I found the name: DARIA — Digital AI Retail Intelligence Assistant. I was quietly proud of that one. It names the person who inspired the idea while describing the assistant we hope to build. An acronym rarely gets to be both useful and affectionate.
